BAGRAM AIR FIELD, Afghanistan (June 25, 2008) –- Approximately 22 militants were killed by Coalition air support after attacking two District Centers in Paktika province Tuesday night.
Afghan National Police were attacked with small-arms fire and rocket-propelled grenades in the Sarobi District Center. The Afghan National Police repelled the attack with small-arms fire and requested Coalition air support.
Once Coalition forces received reports that militants were attacking the Gomal District Center, close-air support was provided in order to aid the ANP in repelling the attack.
When Coalition air support arrived, the 22 militants who attacked the District Centers were positively identified and killed.
In a separate incident, several militants attacked the Waze Zadran District Center in Paktya province with small-arms fire, indirect fire, and RPG fire.
Coalition forces received reports and provided a show of force in the area after the attack had been repelled by the ANP.
