KANDAHAR AIR FIELD, Afghanistan (May 31, 2008)– Afghan National Security Forces, advised and assisted by Coalition forces, used small-arms fire and precision air strikes to eliminate several enemy extremists in Nahre-e Saraj District, Helmand province, May 29. Extremists attacked the combined force reconnaissance patrol with small-arm fire, machine guns and rocket-propelled grenades from fortified positions. Combined forces returned fire and moved to an observation position, allowing them to use precision air strikes to eliminate confirmed enemy positions. ANSF found and destroyed a cache of weapons and ammunition at the site. No ANSF, Coalition, or non-combatants were killed during the engagement. |
