BAGRAM AIRFIELD, Afghanistan – Afghan National Security Forces, assisted by Coalition forces, discovered an ammunition cache near Idyakhel Villages, Chaparhar District, Nangarhar Province, Feb. 17. 
The ANSF-led force planned and executed this mission after receiving credible information of a possible ammunition cache in their area where they found and recovered 12 anti-personnel mines and one 107mm mortar round. 
According to a Coalition forces member, the munitions were in fair condition.
“Recovering these munitions takes away from the insurgents’ ability to conduct attacks in the Nangarhar Province,” said Army Maj. Chris Belcher, Coalition forces spokesman.
 Afghan citizens received compensation for their efforts through the Small Rewards Program when they facilitated the recovery and turn-in of the explosives cache. The SRP encourages and compensates Afghans for their efforts to free the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan of weapons used by insurgents and foreign fighters.
 “Afghan citizens in Nangarhar Province and throughout eastern Afghanistan have taken an active role in improving the security and stability within their villages by facilitating the recovery of munitions caches,” said Belcher. “District and provincial leaders are working hard to get the word to the populace to assist the ANSF in removing munitions that can potentially harm or kill innocent civilians.”
