BAGRAM AIRFIELD, Afghanistan – One Coalition Soldier was killed and two others injured when their vehicle struck an improvised explosive device today in Helmand province, Afghanistan.
Coalition forces, along with Afghan National Security Forces, were conducting a security patrol near the village of Dab in the Nahr-e Saraj District of Helmand province when their vehicle struck a mine placed on a frequently traveled road along the Helmand River.
The blast injured three Coalition Soldiers who were medically evacuated to a combined military outpost in the Washer District of Helmand province.  One soldier later died from the wounds.
Other soldiers in the patrol discovered and neutralized two additional IEDs in the area.
In accordance with policy, the name and nationality of the deceased is being withheld pending the notification of next of kin.
