BAGRAM AIRFIELD, Afghanistan – A Combined force destroyed an insurgent cell in Kunar Province this morning.
During the operation, Afghan National Security Forces, advised by Coalition Forces, came under fire from Taliban insurgents while conducting a cordon and search of a compound looking for insurgents in the Nari District.
The combined force returned fire using accurate small-arms fire and requested close air support.
Precision-guided munitions from the aircraft were used to eliminate the enemy threat.
During the conduct of the operation, one Coalition servicemember was killed by enemy fire, and three were wounded. An ANSF servicemember and an interpreter, working with the Coalition force, were also wounded in the firefight.
The wounded have been evacuated to a Coalition medical facility where they are being treated for non life-threatening wounds.
In accordance with CJTF-82 policy, the names and nationality of the dead and wounded are being withheld pending the notification of their next of kin.
