BAGRAM AIR FIELD, Afghanistan – Coalition forces recently identified two extremists who were captured during separate operations conducted last month to disrupt militant operations in Khowst province. The extremists, identified as Shaswar and Mullah Izatullah, were apprehended during two separate operations in the Nader Shah Kot District. Shaswar, 33, was detained March 13 during an operation targeting him. Shaswar, aka, Sheik Shaswar, was a Haqqani network sub-commander in charge of an IED cell. He was directly involved in attacks against Afghan National Security and Coalition forces and was known to use his residence for planning attacks with the members of his IED cell. At the time of his capture, Shaswar was found in possession of a rifle, an ammunition vest and two AK-47 assault-rifle magazines. Mullah Izatullah, 29, was detained March 18 during an operation targeting his brother Bismullah. Bismullah was Haqqani network fighter who was killed during the course of the operation. Izatullah was a Ghazni Taliban commander and foreign fighter facilitator. He was associated with the Haqqani network through his brother and supported various militant activities against Afghan National Security and Coalition forces. |
