BAGRAM, Afghanistan – Two civilians were injured today in Kandahar Province by an improvised explosive device remotely detonated by suspected insurgents watching nearby.
 The two villagers were walking on a heavily-traveled roadway near the village of Delak, in the Shah Wali Kot District when the villagers spotted IED materials in the roadway.  The villagers alerted a passing convoy of Afghan National Army and Coalition soldiers.  When the convoy stopped, an insurgent remotely detonated the device injuring the two Afghans.
   ANA and Coalition forces immediately provided medical assistance to the civilians, while others pursued two suspected insurgents observed running from the area.  The civilians were taken to an Afghan hospital in the district for additional treatment and are expected to make a full recovery.
 “These two heroic villagers tried to do the right thing by alerting travelers of the presence and dangers of IEDs,” said Army Capt. Vanessa R. Bowman, a Coalition spokesperson.  “Insurgents have repeatedly demonstrated that they do not have any concern for the safety of innocent Afghan citizens.  Afghan National Security Forces and Coalition forces will continue to pursue insurgents to disrupt their illegal activities, making the area safety for all Afghan citizens.”
Afghan National Police responded to the scene and detained four individuals, suspected of insurgent activity in the area.
