BAGRAM AIR FIELD, Afghanistan – Civilians and medical personnel were attacked by insurgents during an Afghan National Army and Coalition forces village medical outreach at Sanguin District, Helmand province, Apr. 12. ANA and Coalition medics were providing medical care to Afghan men, women and children from the surrounding area outside a Coalition base when the insurgents attacked using rocket-propelled grenades and small arms. There were no reports of civilian or Coalition casualties during the attack. Elsewhere in southern Afghanistan, two other medical outreaches were conducted without incident. Near the village of Shamshad, Oruzgan province, ANA and Coalition medics treated approximately 110 Afghan civilians for minor ailments. Afghan doctors, along with Coalition forces, treated more than 130 Afghans for a variety of conditions in Gereshk District, Helmand province. |
