BAGRAM AIR FIELD, Afghanistan (June 23, 2008) – Several militants were killed and 11 were detained during two separate Coalition forces operations Sunday in Helmand and Ghazni provinces targeting anti-afghan government militants.

Coalition forces searched compounds in Reeq District, Helmand province, targeting a militant leader known to facilitate foreign fighter operations and smuggle weapons in the area.

Coalition forces identified a group of armed militants maneuvering against the force and responded with small arms fire. 

In another area, an armed militant fired at Coalition forces from a building.  Several militants were killed and detained in the engagements.

During their search, Coalition forces discovered AK-47s, ammunition and ammunition vests.  The weapons and ammunition were destroyed to prevent their use.

In a separate operation in Andar District, Ghazni province, Coalition forces detained two suspected militants during an operation to disrupt militant activities in the area.
