BAGRAM AIRFIELD, Afghanistan – International Security Assistance Force aircraft dropped precision-guided munitions this afternoon on a compound in Kapisa Province targeting senior Taliban commanders. The attack, in the Pasha Qari village of Tag Ab Valley, targeted a top Taliban commander, wanted for attacks in Kapisa and Parwan Provinces. The commander is a key Heze-I-Gulbudden insurgent facilitator in the valley and is responsible for organizing attacks against ISAF and Coalition forces and the Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan. Intelligence reporting placed the insurgent and another Taliban leader in the compound. ISAF personnel watched the site since last night to ensure it was clear of civilians before conducting the strike. A combined force, consisting of Afghan National Police, Afghan National Army and ISAF personnel, is at the scene conducting exploitation of the site. |
