BAGRAM AIR FIELD, Afghanistan – A number of armed insurgents were killed and four suspected insurgents were detained April 1 during a Coalition forces operation to disrupt Taliban facilitation networks in Helmand Province.
Coalition forces performed a search of compounds in the Kajaki district targeting a Taliban leader conducting weapons facilitation activities in the area.
During the course of the operation, several armed insurgents were killed when they attacked Coalition forces.
“While performing their search, Coalition forces were fired on by several insurgents wielding AK-47s and possessing explosives,” said Maj. Chris Belcher, Coalition forces spokesman. “The attacking insurgents were killed by Coalition Forces responding in self-defense.”
“As an added measure of safety, Coalition forces temporarily relocated the compound’s non-combatants to protect them from hostilities taking place,” said Belcher.
Additionally, Coalition forces detained four individuals with suspected links to a targeted Taliban leader and Taliban weapons facilitation operations.
