Recently, Task Force Med, out of Bagram's Craig Hospital, conducted an experimental remote medical training program. The goal of the training was to build the capacity of Afghan health care providers through lectures and live training all conducted via video teleconference. Medics and doctors from 2-508th Parachute Infantry Regiment located at Afghanistan's Ghazni Hospital were standing by to assist Afghan medical personnel with the physical portion of the training. There were also translators at both locations to assist with terminology. Ventilator training and plastic surgery were among some of the advanced techniques taught during the training. The program tuned out to be a great success and is being proposed as the model for this type of remote training. After some of the kinks are worked out, remote training for medical personnel across Afghanistan will be the norm allowing for more thorough training for Afghan doctors who may not be able to travel to Bagram to get further training, which will greatly improving health care throughout the country. |
